Reporting on the “Outrageous Acts of Love” summer tour, and the heat is on! The Friday, July 19 performance at Rivard Plaza has been cancelled due to expected heat index temps over 100 degrees!
Today at Rivard Plaza, where GM sponsors the “Reading and Rhythm” family day series of events in July and August, it was warm but manageable. Lots of movie stars including “Hercules”, note his flowing locks of hair below… he was with the Hanley International School in Hamtramck. They were a big group with a fun bunch of teachers and guardians.
This “Rhythm & Read” is a fun event to spend a nice summer day, right on the Detroit river with a great view of the Renaissance Center, as well as our friendly Canadian neighbors. Kids all get a book, a ride on the carousel, and a rousing musical show by some “Guy in the D” outfit. There are also some incredible volunteers that make this event work, organized through the Riverfront Conservancy. We had some Hawaiian dancers, Hip-Hop dancers, Rock ‘n Roll dancers, Baby Dancers and everyone in between… and often the volunteers will be up showing their moves, yet today’s heat kept them passing out water and information to all the happy reading lovers.
Shortly after we all arrived at Rivard Plaza, they let us know that the heat index was forcing them to cancel the event for tomorrow, Friday July 19. That was good information for me, as it is tough for the audience to be in that type of heat, and of course for any performers.
After 3 shows downtown finishing at 2pm, I headed home for a shower and a quick nap before heading to the Huntington Woods Library for an inside show on the American Music Theme. What a nice group we had, including the movie star Alexandria, who dazzled us all with her impeccable singing, dancing, storytelling and musical performance. She also picked out a book for herself.
We could mention the Dearborn shows on Friday, July 12 at the Family Day during the Farmer’s Market. I had a real crew that day with these awesome dudes. All I had to do was pay them in ice cream, and they were rocking the town. We were in a brand new area, as Ford Motors has been investing in the downtown area with many beautiful new buildings and public spaces.
And this beautiful bundle of love nearly tore a hole in the stage with her dancing, throwing her hat in the air, shoes were flying, hair was flying… whoa! It was ‘outrageous acts of love’ at it’s finest, a rip-roaring affair… though one baby did fall asleep…
We also did have a movie star in Livonia at the Park-It Family Movie night… it was Athena. She’s shown here with her bodyguard and booking agent, who carries here everywhere. Note the “hello kitty” knock-off hat, the Prada sunglasses, but you can’t see her light-up Nike Greek Goddess shoes…
Hey peeps, don’t forget about the cancellation tomorrow, and the many more shows ahead. See you there.
